My name is Kate and I am the author of the Lakeside Dance College series. I started ballet when I was six years old and continued for the next fifteen years. I studied many other forms of dance as well, but ballet was always my focus—demi plie, stretch, rise and lower … Actually, jumps and pirouettes were my favourite.
I taught dance part-time for about eight years and also dipped my toe (a pointed one of course!) in some musical theatre. Alongside dance, I became a primary school teacher. But what I have always loved doing is creating and writing stories. So I studied writing and publishing and together with my love for dance and friendships, created this series.
I am a stay-at-home mum living with my husband and three delightful young sons, who keep my on my (ballet) toes. My dream is to share my stories and have children fall in love with the characters and their beautiful friendships and to see that challenges can be overcome when you have the love and support of others.
About the series so far ...
The Lakeside Dance College series focuses around eleven year old Lily, a talented dancer who has been accepted into a boarding dance school. Lily is dedicated, a loyal friend and a lot of fun to be around. But she has a terrible habit of daydreaming and thinking the worst, which gets her into some messy situations during her first week at her new school.
Add two new wonderful friends – Zoe, with her boundless energy and non-stop chatter and Ben, a cheeky, charming and very talented ballet dancer - and Lily finds herself settling in and looking forward to all the adventures ahead of her.
The series looks at the challenges faced when reaching to achieve your dreams as well as common issues that arise in pre-teen years. The characters in the series come from different types of families and cultures. The strength of friendships and learning to be a true friend is intended to be a powerful focus in this series.
Look out for the third book in the series due to be released in 2020!
